Overview
Terrain is a core game mechanic within Ages of Conflict, it is the foundation of any map or scenario and for that the entire game.
Types
There are 6 different terrain types including Basic Land, Hills, Mountains, Desert/Tundra, Water, and Crossings. Mountains and Water are unclaimable to nations while other terrains are. Terrain can be edited either in the map creator, scenario editor, or God mode, with a slider from 1-25 Pixels of any terrain, However Terrain with Cities cannot be changed unless the city is removed, other similar features are listed as All terrain must be built first on Basic land and cannot be placed on water. Terrain effects Gold production.
Crossings
Crossings can only be painted on water and don't effect size or gold, crossings can be claimed by nations and allow countries to engage in war across water making it possible to cross seas and continents, an example of this is Italy, while not bordering Albania Italy can still use their Adriatic Sea crossing to attack Albania. Cities cannot be placed on crossings.
Water
Water is explains itself, its water and no country can own it. Cities cannot be placed on water.
Basic Terrain
Basic Terrain is the default terrain having no special effects, almost all pieces of terrain are Basic Land. Cities can be placed on Basic Land.
Hills
Hills are essentially the same as Basic Terrain except they are harder to invade and generate 30% the Gold of Basic Land. Cities can be placed on Hills.
Mountains
Mountains provide barriers for invasions and borders, it is impossible to invade mountains or for a nation to have mountains as part of their territory. Cities can be placed on mountains..
Desert/Tundra
Tundra/Deserts are almost valueless pieces of land that generate 10% the gold of Basic Land, nations full of Tundra/Deserts such as Iceland, Norway, Algeria, Ect generate much less Gold because of this.
